Three Tips For Pressure Washing Your Vehicle Effectively

Blog

If you're fed up with the time and expense associated with visiting a car wash, investing in a pressure washer, from a location like Chris' Pressure Wash, and detailing the exterior of your own vehicle from the convenience of your driveway is a viable solution. Once you've bought this machine and are ready to turn your dirty car into a clean one, it's important to take a little time to not only familiarize yourself with the proper use of the pressure washer, but also to understand how you can use it specifically to clean your vehicle. Here are three tips that can help you transform the look of your vehicle safely and effectively.

Vary The Pressure

Many pressure washers allow the user to adjust the water pressure, which is valuable if you plan to clean your vehicle. The exact pounds per square inch of pressure that you use depend on the machine, but it's generally best to wash sensitive areas with a lower pressure and more robust areas with a higher pressure. For example, if your car has pinstripes or glued-on emblems, spraying these areas with a lower pressure is best to avoid dislodging anything stuck to the vehicle. You can use higher pressure for tougher areas, such as the coated bed of your pickup truck or around the wheel wells of any vehicle.

Spray From A Moderate Distance

Don't fall into the trap of holding the tip of the pressure washer close to the body of your vehicle, especially when you're determined to remove stubborn road debris. It's advisable to keep the tip of the washer at least eight to 10 inches away from the surface of your vehicle to prevent the risk of damage. If you're having trouble removing any debris, the solution involves more scrubbing with soap and the right style of sponge instead of close-quarters spray with your pressure washer.

Be Careful Around The Tires

The rubber of your vehicle's tires seems pretty robust, but aiming the spray from a pressure washer -- especially when you're using the machine at a high PSI setting -- directly at the sidewall of any of your tires can weaken the rubber and cause costly damage. If you wish to wash your tires, set the machine to a gentler setting and rinse the tire briefly. You can then use some specialized soap and a tire-cleaning brush to scrub the tires without the risk of weakening the sidewall by accident.

Outstanding Automobile Repair

Understanding more about the type of car that you have can help you understand the best ways to maintain it, and how to tell if there’s trouble brewing under the hood before you end up stranded. That’s why, when I found a car make that I liked, I kept going back to it every time I bought a new car. It’s also why I use a mechanic that specializes in repairing and maintaining cars made by my specific manufacturer type. Over the years, I’ve learned so much about what makes this particular car work, and what kind of quirks come with this type of vehicle. I started this blog to share some of that information and help other car owners learn to effectively maintain their automobiles and recognize the potential signs of trouble.
