1. Always Keep up With Maintenance: One of the best things that you can do for your vehicle is continuing with regular maintenance for it. This is going to prevent a great deal of wear and tear, as well as major damages that would need to be repaired. When you go to take your vehicle in for small repairs, there is less of a chance that other issues will come up that need to be repaired. If you aren't receiving regular maintenance, one trip to your local repair shop can end up costing more money and taking up more of your time. 
2. Be Specific About the Problems: When you take your vehicle in for a problem, you want to be specific about what that problem is. For example, be sure that you record when the problem occurs. If you feel that you can get the repairs done for a cheaper amount, you can take this estimate to another auto repair service in your area. However, if you go through with the repairs at the same shop, having the written diagnosis and estimate is a great protection to ensuring that your mechanic only repairs that specific diagnosis and does not charge you a great deal more for the repairs. 
4. Receive Written Record of the Work: When the repairs have been done, you will want to be sure that you receive a written estimate for the work that was done. This is important because it ensures that if you need to have the repairs fixed under the warranty coverage, then you can bring in the written record to prove that you had the work done at that shop.
